The ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) for the provision and promotion of art content in the country aimed at developing the Arts sector using the ZNBC platforms which translates into an increase in content creation.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, ZNBC Director General Berry Lwando who was in the company of the Acting Director Programs Inutu Himanje and other ZNBC staff noted that the MOU would enable artists to be elevated and will enable them compete internationally.
“It has given us the importance now to ensure that the process going forward is going to be active, achievable and done in the right manner. In terms of what we`ve designed to get the process going through.
So it does respond to the need of our artists to make them grow in their particular field,” he said.
“It does respond to the dramatization of the content in spaces where the ministry has never been before and we are actually going to do that. It also responds to the growth of ZNBC as a national broadcaster.”
Meanwhile, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary in charge of Arts Fumba Chama who was also flanked by the other Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe and other Senior Government officials said government was ready too propel artists.
“Let me state that we are poised to enhance development in the sector of arts through this partnership, for instance we planned to develop and produce a television drama series depicting Zambia`s national Identity, values and principles. This proposed series will highlight the arts, culture, heritage and nature in general. This includes portraying multiple locations and places we have in our beautiful country as a way of marketing Zambia as both nationally and internationally,” Mr Fumba said.
“Other content activities that will be show cased are performing, visual, crafts, media, literacy arts, fashion, digital arts and other forms of the Arts.”
Mr. Fumba further encouraged artists who are not in any associations to join as this is the best way government can coordinate and invest in the Arts sector as this will also enable artists to contribute to the economy of the country.
“This affirms government`s long standing position, that Art is a business and a key pillar to our national economic and social development.”
