Kafue constituency wrapped up its Golden Jubilee celebrations in a sporting mode. Khosa stadium famously known as the “Abattoir” had a hive of activities for the men and women’s football teams. Netball teams were also in action.
The event was officiated by Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Minister Hon. Elvis Nkandu, MP in the company of area member of Parliament Hon. Miriam Chonya. Also in attendance was Netball Association of Zambia President Martha Sichone among others.
The women’s final match saw Kafue Muslims Stars beat Young Greens Eagles academy 1-0 and South Gate men’s football team beat Riverside 1-0.
ZNS emerged champions in the Netball tournament, they shared the same point with Kafue stars who also got 13 points but the goal difference separated them. ZNS got 37 goals while Kafue stars had 27.
Hon. Elvis Nkandu noted that tournaments have not only showcased exceptional athletic talent but also exemplified the values that sport represent.
“You may wish to note that sports goes beyond trophies and accolades, it is about nurturing the talents in our youth and instilling in them the values of discipline, teamwork and fair play. Such tournaments not only foster friendships but also forms a basis for the country to learn lessons on the importance of sport in national development.
When we talk of football in Zambia, Kafue district has a special place because it has produced national team players in the name of late kelvin Mutale, Enock Mwepu, Patson Daka but to mention a few. In netball we have Dorcas Musolo, currently playing for green Eagles in Lusaka. As such we shall always ensure that we promote and develop sport in Kafue district. “
The constituency is celebrating its Golden Jubilee under the theme: 50 years of Parliamentary Democracy in Kafue!
