The Embassy of the United States of America is proud to partner with the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts, Ministry of Education, and the Football Association of Zambia to promote youth leadership through sports. We are excited to announce that 14 football coaches and administrators from across Zambia have been selected to participate in the U.S. Sports Visitor program in California from January 6-21, 2024. Soccer is Zambia’s most popular sport, with many young people looking up to the national, junior, and women’s soccer teams. Nevertheless, young women and girls continue to be disproportionately affected by issues like gender-based violence, HIV, teenage pregnancy and early marriages. The goal of this program is to build the capacity of community and youth soccer coaches and administrators so that they can develop girls’ leadership and participation in soccer. The program will also highlight the U.S. government’s role in promoting sports as a tool for youth leadership.
