Government has with excitement welcomed the launch of the Rachael Kundananji Legacy Foundation which has been dedicated to using football as a catalyst for positive change.

Ministry of Youth Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary, Kangwa Chileshe who officiated at the launch on behalf of the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Hon.Elvis Nkandu this morning said by harnessing the power of football, the foundation has the potential to empower the youth in many ways which include physical health, mental resilience, social integration, Community outreach and infrastructure development. Mr Chileshe was delighted to note that the foundation will collaborate with local authorities to improve football facilities through safe pitches, changing rooms and coaching centres.

He said Government recently devolved Community sport to the local authorities countrywide with matching resources adding that initiatives such as the Rachael Kundananji Legacy Foundation are a welcome move as they not only supplement available resources but also demonstrate individuals who have excelled in sports desire to see others succeed.Describing Rachael Kundananji and her team’s initiative as exemplary, Mr Chileshe emphasized on the need for successful athletes to give back to the community.He said in today’s world, football is much more than just a sport but a universal language that transcends borders, culture and backgrounds adding that the game also unites people, ignites passion and fosters teamwork.

He further said in football lies the immense potential for youth development as the sport is now a lucrative industry for employment.
