The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts (MYSA) in partnership with the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and other stakeholders, held the ceremonial launch of the GRZ Phase One Programme under the theme “Unleashing Scalable Solution for Youth Empowerment in Zambia” on 7th December, 2022.
200 Youths, as well as representatives from relevant line ministries, the UN Country Team, cooperating partners, and the private sector, joined the Ministry of Youth Sport and Arts at a successful Launch event held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre (Kenneth Kaunda Wing).
The Launch event was an opportunity for Government to announce the upcoming programme and outline its strategic objectives, outputs and initiatives to key stakeholders towards garnering the required support and commitment for its effective implementation.
To this end, the Launch was underpinned by the Government’s renewed approach to apply a multisectoral coordination mechanism that focused on integrating service provision while testing scalable solutions.
The following are the three specific initiatives:
- An integrated Platform to facilitate the creation of the youth virtual Hub to provide a robust youth database and a single-entry easy access point for productive resources, opportunities, and information for Zambia’s youth.
- Optimizing and Rehabilitating Youth Centers and Hubs to make them fit-for purpose. This means improving the digital offerings of the youth hubs through the formulation of a catalogue of services leveraging both digital capabilities and cost-effective service delivery that are meeting the current youth demands in line with the recommendations of both the national and provincial consultations.
- Roll out of a Pilot Internship/Graduate/ Apprenticeship/ and Volunteer Programme to test models and approaches that enhance employability of youth which can then be leveraged to design suitable youth employment programmes. The pilot programme will focus on specific placements of young people in government, UN, and private sector institutions.
